nick morton was lucky he had the tom cruise plot armor bc hes quite literally the insufferable character you'd expect to die first in horror films.

    plot could've been something.
decent budget wasted on shitty writing.

I quite liked Aronofsky and his previous works but Mother! was definitely not it for me. Couldn't even stomach having to watch the rest of the film at how painfully pretentious the abstraction is just to deliver some generic lessons of the day that could have been expressed more poignantly. Like yes, I agree that certain indirectness and vagueness is necessary to uphold the mood and mystery of a story, but it seemed like Aronofsky was trying to use these…

Ah, a cinema du corpse in 2024.
Grotesque. Unfiltered. Theatrical. Think Scream Queens but more unhinged. Mother! with more personality. Black Swan but incredibly disgusting. 1977 Suspiria with more and more and more flesh.

Was I disgusted? Definitely. Was I uncomfortable? Maybe. Was it a shock? Eh, not really. But I was definitely intrigued.

It's so performative, what exactly is there to take seriously? Heck, the thin line between the allegories and mere exaggerated narratives in this film is difficult…
