Visually and sonically appealing, the storytelling left something to be desired for me. It almost feels like the "Neuromancer" of film- undoubtedly influential and seminal to the genre of science fiction, but just not that great. It certainly HAS a lot to say, but its literary message feels secondary to artistic expression, which is fine, but it's not everyone's cup of tea. Also, people vastly over-inflate HAL's "evilness", leaving him yet another victim in a long line of inhuman characters laid waste by judgment under human terms.
