  One of the things that this movie gets right is understanding that Bruce Wayne is, and has to be, a loser, a figure of absolute psychic regression and ressentiment. His childhood trauma has taken him "out of time," and left him unable to progress. All that is left to him is to "play," to dress up and re-enact (like Hamlet) his scene of trauma. Blocked from psychic development, he sets himself the necessarily unachievable goal of revenging himself against "crime"…
