intriguing film with what I felt is a fairly honest portrayal of institutional religion. thought it was paced well, strong acting, great script, beautiful cinematography.

naturally, the film plays into the stereotypes of its time, which are reductive of the complexities of autism and savant syndrome, but it is ultimately a well-told story about learning to love someone different from you because of their differences. by that measure, it is a fantastic script with the acting chops to match.

beautiful film. the imagery it emphasized will live in my head for a long time. truly encompasses the fear and impossibility of accepting your true self, how you have to scratch and claw and scream and tear yourself apart to get there, and most of all, what happens if you don’t.

was completely unmoved, ngl. i haven’t read the source material so i can’t judge on that end and i know luca likes his horny shit but it’s soooo plotless. oliver was unreachable as a character, which could’ve been the point, but it also made his and elio’s relationship boring when that was 90% of the film. and i’m not even gonna touch on the age difference thing but SERIOUSLY?? HIS PARENTS WERE JUST COOL WITH IT???? okay, man.

my only compliment is that timothée’s performance was great, as always. thank God he’s in better productions now.
