O Fantasma 2000
A movie that starts as a simple narration of a less than interesting charachter seems no interesting at all. This film starts this way, but slowly turns into a very complex collection of images. Some more mundane than others until it unwinds into a crypto-gothic lyrical poem ,or nightmare if you wish. The thing is that I've rarely seen anything so structured, beautiful and grotesque at the same time. This film will leave you with a deep feeling of catharsis.…

Work 1978
Making a film with non-professional actors could sometimes pay off very well. It could also backfire if the casting is not done with an accurate eye for detail. Souleymane Cisse manages to narrate the story of modern times Mali in such a truthful approach that all elements needed to level a film to good standards are doomed secondary. This film deals with so many social issues that it's sole reason for existing is a true testament against the oppresion and corruption suffered in many African countries.
