  For all the gravitas imposed on its subject through propulsive montage, dissonant strings and escalating thuds, something rings false about making a film about the eradication of 200,000 Japanese civilians through the remorseful eyes of the bomb’s creator. It would be like making a film about the concentration camps through the remorseful eyes of a benevolent capitalist.

  Unlike La Ceremonie or Bong’s own Memories of a Murder (his best movie by far and his only great film), this is whimsical but lacks any real precarity.
