As a movie it's a 3.5, I am not the biggest fan of make your own meaning type of stories, but I do think it is a feat of creativity and talent to make this in Blender and conveying personality, story, and emotion with animals that do not speak (the movie makes it look easy but just look at Disney's Lion King remakes to see how movies with 100x the budget can fall flat on this). +0.5 to encourage such movies and the Oscar voters probably thought so in the same vein.
