As someone going into this not knowing 100% of Andy Kaufman’s work, (I only really knew about his inter-gender/Memphis wrestling) I dove into the majority of Kaufmans stuff before I watched and Jim Carrey fucking nails this, He was born to play this role, it’s such a beautiful tribute to Kaufman and I totally understand how he had to become a man possessed in order to play him. It seems the real Kaufman was a lot less intense and more…

I can’t put into words how much of an artistic genius Scorsese is, he directed the fuck out of this.

So many memorable shots from in the ring, for example the dolly-in/zoom-out shot of Sugar Ray and Jake creates the sense of uneasiness before Sugar Ray just unloads a barrage of strikes on Jake, giving us the shot of Jake’s blood spraying all over the judges and their table.

I sat in silence for a good while just to take in what I saw, just a fucking nightmare to watch.

There’s no story, the family we observe are meaningless, none of this matters, they’re only there so you have to sit there and digest the horror.
The imagery in this film, the sound, the noises from the camp creeping into every scene, the reality of it all is just haunting.

    The mundanity of evil.

What can you say about Rupert’s monologue, it’s definitely a worthy payoff for the film as a whole.
it’s an honest, gut-wrenching and disturbing telling of his upbringing told using the comedic route, just pure black comedy, and De Niro can do absolutely anything, this is such an eyebrow raising performance for him but of course he aces it with ease.
He was destined to be a king for a lifetime, never a schmuck.

Jerry Lewis smashes it too, portraying an…
