The Substance 2024
This film is exactly what the industry needed. Proof that you can make an insanely entertaining piece of cinema that's wild and wacky whilst also giving the message you want to portray. Most films these days feel like they could've been a podcast, with zero visual story telling. The sound design, the acting, the incredible visuals, the story, FLAWLESS. The only reason this doesn't get the full 5 stars is because it was a little slow to start.

I think I'm becoming jaded. Like there's no way this many people are wrong. I just don't have anything positive to say. I don't know what this movie was about. I feel like you'd get the same emotions from watching CCTV of a motel. The last sequence was just horrendous though, you can't even defend it. Fkn vlog footage masquerading as a final sequence, embarassing. Honestly the whole film felt like if Ken Loach hated story progression.

I literally have no idea how people are rating this higher. The animation was lazy, the story is literally from one page of a book stretched out to be 2 hours and a bit long. But the worst part *SPOILER* was when the villain had the son hostage, he rocked up and in front of 30 archers kills the hostage, and instead of, you know, killing the bad guy with one of the 30 archers you have pointed at him…
