Energetic, slightly sickening editing and a slick premise. There’s a great point two thirds in where you stop rooting for any of them and can lavish in it all falling apart.
Wanted to love this but couldn’t. The messaging is somehow too straightforward yet too oblique. The complexity of James Woods character seems to drop off as the movie becomes increasingly unhinged, and unlike The Thing the pacing is all over the place. Still gets points for serious amounts of style, great set and graphic design, and a bonkers plot.
Serotonin releasing flick. Heaps of fun, a little on the nose but somehow pulls off being a dumb comedy and an interesting look at the importance of language in culture. Michael Fassbender plays an extended cameo, JJ plays likes he’s been acting all his life. Highly recommend, will have H.O.O.D echoing in my head for weeks.
