Movie of the decade so far… easily. Villenueve should win best director and Fraser should win for best cinematography. Every actor was phenomenal. Villenueve establishes himself (if not obvious before) as a premier director in cinema today.

It’s cinematic art, from the brilliant directing of Denis Villenueve to the complex range of emotions Ryan Gosling emanates. Even more, practical sets are used when necessary and you can clearly see it in dystopian Los Angeles. A very solid first entry to the widely-acclaimed Lord Of The Rings trilogy. I love the balance of characters and the depictions of the scenery — especially given the time it was made. There is an equal balance of good and evil and the characters together drive the story forward beautifully. Ian McKellen is freaking amazing as Gandalf and Elijah Wood sells his innocence as Frodo so well. In the midst of following the story I found great comedic relief from Gimli the Dwarf.
