  Nostalgia bomb. Nothing more, nothing less. Cool flying, cool effects. I just kept asking “why” for so many things throughout the film. I get that the top gun series and Tom Cruise films more generally are pretty surface level but I feel like this one didn’t necessarily have to be. Overall just left me wanting more in a good way and a bad way.

  The standout for this film for me is that German language and the way it is spoken ads additional layers to the themes of frivolity of war, and unavoidable destruction. If you haven’t seen it in it’s natural form, go back and watch with subtitles.
