    i understand the primary messaging is that the endless pursuit of beauty/youth is self destructive but the film ultimately does not resolve in empathy for elisabeth? feels like its trying to punish her for falling victim to self hatred. reads like a cautionary tale that says don’t hate yourself for being “old” and “ugly” or you might end up….actually old and ugly!

    actually feel a little empty after this. the tragedy of a coming of age that never arrives!! beautiful and haunting and the soundttack actually had me like this 😮

    yeah i’m gonna think about that closing sequence for a while. there are some movies that evoke some profound melancholy in me that at once makes me so sad but also heightens my awareness of life's beauty and this is one of them. 

    i was waiting for a single moment of truth that never arrives, instead the narrative slowly unravels in such a masterful way. a beautiful tragedy! although maybe not a tragedy at all…it just depends on how you look at it 

    maybe i’ll write a better review when i’m not emotionally wrecked

    i spent the whole film holding my breath waiting for the ball to drop but it never really does. the atmosphere is idyllic and laid back but punctuated with these frenetic flashing rave sequences, it never lets you forget that we’re living in a memory and that it inevitably has to come to an end. that scene with under pressure is tremendous idec that the lyrics were a little unsubtle. we reach across time and memory and only then can we grasp onto the barest flicker of understanding…
