Jon M Chu perfectly translates this story from one medium to another. He used classic film story telling techniques to let movies do what movies do best: let the audience empathize. On stage emotions have to be so larger that even the person in the back row can understand how the character is feeling. In film one tear can be enough to rip out your heart.
