I think it succeeds in creating empathy and showing that people are unhoused for a variety of reasons and that hate crimes are bad. This has a very particular approach and designated audience similar to Angel Studios films. When people are helped they are given a bible, characters are thanking God, there is many mentions of prayer, Salvation Army is involved in the creation of it.

I think it unfortunately leans into some of the stigmas it is trying to…

Something this series does very well that many apocalypse movies don’t is that it stays focused on characters. With the heightened budget they showed us the monsters, but kept the focus on the fear of the person in front of it.

    Lupita vs loud white men

Joywave coded apocalypse film told through/surrounding a cat.

Magic cat. How is this cat alive let alone everyone around it? No meows, no purrs, totally chill with being drowned, can find anyone anytime, etc.

This was a really fun movie with a good amount of heart to balance out. It is good to see a super hero movie return to focusing on character roots and motivations where they thrive. Fights and flashy powers are only briefly entertaining, you have to make the audience care about the characters. This movie does have a lot of very flat characters, but it’s still a big step back in the right direction.

Can’t wait for when they decide to give grandma the Machete treatment.

Overall it was good. I think there being a shared issue between the antagonist and protagonist is cool. The visuals were better than a lot of recent marvel projects. Moving speeches were had by all. Downside is how many shifts in motivation and purpose that Shuri has. She’s always been sure of herself and I understand that grief can interfere with reasoning, but when you change your reasoning 5 times in a movie it’s a lot. Some of the dedications to Chadwick’s Black Panther made sense and others didn’t. I walked out not really sure about it. It was good, but rather messy.
