    Kiki's Delivery Service

    ★★★½

In my watching of all the Ghibli films, Kiki's Delivery Service was one I was really looking forward to since I'd heard a lot of good things about it.

I wouldn't say the film disappointed me, I still gave it 3.5 stars but it wasn't the film I was expecting. It sets up an interesting premise of a witch who needs to go out into the world and learn magic but doesn't really deliver on it. It also seems to…

Seaplane pirates of the Mediterranean. An excellent little alternate history with all the normal Ghibli goodness plus great humour and fun dogfights. "I'd rather be a.pig than a fascist."

Absolutely amazing action. While I enjoyed the first, it's small budget limitations were a little obvious. With more scope, investment and freedom Gareth Evans has been able to improve on the original Raid film with a fantastic sequel.

The fight choreography is close to unmatched and the performances are excellent. While the film does feel a touch too long the story it told was, while a little obvious, very well executed.

    Don Jon

    ★★★½

An occasionally graphic story about how a man's life is affected by his addiction to pornography. With a strong story that goes in a different direction than I had expected, Don Jon is well worth a watch.

Gordon-Levitt and Johansson's New Jersey accents take some getting used to it has to be said but this doesn't detract from the strong acting on display.

Overall an impressive directorial debut from Joseph Gordon-Levitt which shows promise for the future.

Take note however that this is certainly not one to watch with the family, or a partner unless you want to be asked awkward questions afterwards.
