The Kreutzer Sonata 1956
I remember reading the novella years ago and how intense it was in its "critique" of society’s hypocrisy regarding marriage. It made me question many of my own life decisions, listen to The Kreutzer Sonata over and over, and wonder how the hell wasn’t she supposed to be seduced while playing this music?
As for the film, I loved seeing Rohmer and Godard experimenting before the birth of the New Wave. While it wasn’t as intense as the book, I can never resist some beautiful handheld camera work and that classic 50s French narration. So, all in all, I’m happy with this one.Translated from by -
