Vivarium 2019
Pros: neat concept, cool dreamlike look. Cearly trying to do something different, and (perhaps unintentionally) ends up conveying a sense of dull emptiness, isolation and monotony really effectively.
Cons: just about everything else. The child. The pacing. The lack of enough style or substance to justify the feature length runtime. The metaphor is too basic and shallow to remain interesting for that long without further exploration or development
Like so many other reviews say, this could have been a great short film. 45 minutes tops. Really wanted this to be good

cool concept, could have used somewhat better execution. maybe get some more threat of exposure in there? instead of a pack of aggressive wolves apparently freely prowling a southern NH ski hill?

Life Is Beautiful 1997
Had to watch this in high school history class. Couldn't wait for it to be over and when it finally was and the lights came back on i was surprised to see people in tears (and i cry at movies super easily). Painfully obnoxious use of ~whimsy~ that never once came across as heartwarming or inspirational so much as it did Oscar-bait The Day The Clown Cried. Fuck this film, i can feel my jewish ancestors' disappointment just thinking about it.
