    Mickey 17

    Bong’s best English film, perhaps even on par with his native works. I adore how every one of his films share the same trademarks - satirical political commentaries, etc - without ever feeling blasé; this is a true testament to how talented Bong is at filmmaking, and I hope to see him attempt more creative concepts with his style. CGI has improved greatly from his previous features, which is good to see the higher budget at play. Really hoping to see Yeun appear in his Korean films!

    Naturally, the experience is enhanced by the present understanding of Zuckerberg’s continued spiral into influence, controversy, and assholery. Not to say the dive into Facebook’s origins isn’t interesting alone, but you’d imagine this topic wouldn’t still be as engaging with the platform’s fade into irrelevancy.

    I’m getting the same feeling I got when I watched Your Name, though with less emotion. It’s all-around good, with the audio and visuals even being great, and even some exceptionally powerful scenes (specifically any memory/memento moments). But also like with Your Name, Shinkai seems to be holding back. The supernatural elements have no real story or life to them which makes the repetitive plot undeserving. I also wouldn’t mind the cycle if there was any actual tension - every time…
