  A magnificent performance from Lili Rose Depp and Eggers’ atmospheric cinematography make this movie worthwhile watching. Bill Skarsgard’s prosthetic vampire is however something of a disappointment. He possesses nothing of the eerie horror qualities that made Schreck, Kinski and Oldman such great vampires. In comparison Skarsgard resembles a Serbian PE teacher and sounds like a Swedish stroke patient.

  The Blackout 1997

  Sex, lies & videotape the Abel Ferrara way.
  I watched this the same day David Lynch died. There is a connection of sorts between the two directors. Both Dark and trippy. But where as Lynch makes art, Ferrara has to make his movies on much smaller budgets.
  Matthew Modine is great in the lead in the Blackout. A pity he never starred in a Lynch Movie.
