Lost in Translation 2003
for a film about translation and incomprehension, I imagined that we would at some point get some clarity about what is actually trying to be said about cultural displacement. Or instead it would embrace the fact that language need not be translated at all, our frame of reference would not be constantly returned to ‘two white people vs japan’. The outsider’s perspective dominates this film, which would be okay if it was acknowledged that this perspective is itself a kind…
