This was very good. Sometimes the pacing of the documentary was frenetic, perhaps to complement the rhythms of jazz. Problem with that was there was no time to sit with the weight of the history presented. And the back-to-back 1950s and 60s jazz bangers were really engaging at first, but then they perhaps took too much space in the narrative. By the end of the film, there’s an unsettling sense that we’re only scratching at the surface of the horrors committed in the region for the sake of US/Western interests.
Really enjoyed the snippets of Congolese jazz and translations of the lyrics
