Wow. This really had the potential for the hackiest legacy sequel the world had ever seen but actually it kinda rocked. Hell yeah.

Ford v Ferrari 2019
It’s really good but the narrative pacing is so fucking weird. Like after every scene I guess it’s just supposed to be understood that weeks have gone by or months and it kinda kills my attachment to these wonderfully performed characters a little bit. The story itself is a really good piece of true biography but I can imagine if I wasn’t there for the true story aspect that it would become a bit frustrating after the 2nd or 3rd scene of time jumping.

Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion 1997
Not at all what I was expecting. The mecha-deconstruction series closes with an existential bang of emotions. I was completely blindsided by its conclusion. So stark and yet so thoughtful in its resolution and yet utterly devestating. It’s the kind of sci-fi that I crave. Will definitely require a rewatch of both the series and this movie to fully grasp all the themes and symbolism therein but at face value it still left me awestruck in the wake of its vision. I’ve truly fallen in love with Japanese storytelling.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri 2017
A dark comedy that pulls ZERO punches. It’s ugly but it’s genuine and in turn it’s very compelling. It’s also very funny. The script is loaded with sharp and venomous wit that somehow, through all the darkness, (and there is a lot of darkness) still lands. Sam Rockwell, Frances Mcdormand, and Woody Harrelson are some of the best casting I’ve seen this year and their performances deserve the highest of recognition. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri is a hard favorite of mine from 2017.
