  Upsettingly good for a feature film debut. I'm a big fan of Whitehead's original story and was eager to see how Ross would adapt it. Essays have been written about the intentionality of the first-person perspective throughout Nickel Boys, and the clues behind the few times the camera chooses to break it's own rules.   An absolutely crushing portrayal of the impact of Alzheimer's on one's sense of place and memory. Anthony Hopkins' Oscar win was well-warranted (although I haven't seen SoM yet), with Olivia Coleman giving an excellent supporting role. My brain definitely drew a lot of parallels to 2017's mother!, with the constant introduction of characters and changing setting. I'll join singing the praises for Florian Zellar—he absolutely knocked it out of the park for his directorial debut.
