  okay so interesting. the premise of this movie isn’t one that really attracted me when i first heard about it, seemed like a dangerous combo of long and tense, but it picked up quite a few noms so i threw it a bone. wowowow some of the shots in this movie are incredible - i had to pause when the cardinals where walking down with their umbrellas to admire it like a still. the contrast between the red and white…

  sometimes when you’re making a movie set in the seventies about intoxicating and all-consuming rock and roll, it’s so easy to abuse the environment and produce just a display of pure and primal and intangible freedom. lazily a director can use this aesthetic as a blanket to cover shit casting or mediocre music or careless cinematography or poor acting. instead crowe’s immersive 70s world merely enriches the beautiful shots, future star-studded, talented cast and just beautiful writing. also, every single itsy bitsy penny of the 3.5 million that this movie spent on music: WORTH IT.

  i saw this in imax so maybe it’s biased to say it was such an experience. the film and the sets were absolutely spectacular. historical inaccuracies aside i thought it was an impressively moving depiction of tyranny and oppression while also giving paul mescal time to flex for the camera. worth all the hype it’s getting for sure
