The Secret of Kells 2009
i watched this over and over and over again as a kid. it explores old faith, how it intertwines with the beauty of christianity, the natural world, creativity, the power of the collective, and the enduring power of art and culture through trauma inflicted on society. a powerful message for our present day and dark prophecies ahead. we have to keep on loving God, nature, art, and the spirits we meet along the way.

Lady Bird 2017
beautiful cinematography but that doesn’t save how much I did not like it. had it on 1.5 speed for most of the movie. saoirse ronan plays the most entitled, self-obsessed, and disrespectful character I have ever seen. treats her family and best friend like garbage and gets away with it. also the poor shtick is used over and over again which is incredibly annoying since her household easily belongs in the mid-upper middle class. makes a mockery of those who suffer from poverty. I just cannot sympathize with her at all except with her anger at kyle. who is this supposed to be relatable to?

The Help 2011
white savior emma stone movie is possibly the worst way you could waste 2 and a half hours of your time. you could instead look up how birth of a nation (1915) has shaped our legislative systems for over 100 years. or go write a song. or go soak in an ice cold bath. anything but this.
