F for Fake 1973
What a picture! Once again the immense aura Orson Welles has cannot be understated, I hung onto every word out of his cigar-smoking mouth. Brilliant editing. A wonderful, dare I say perfect? blending of fake and real that puts the art world under a critical lens, all while interweaving the lives of three men, narrator included. Is the worth of a painting only determined by its artist? Would an excellent forgery still command the presence of an original, and if you can’t tell the difference then does it even really matter?
