Jojo Rabbit 2019
Went into this movie expecting heavy-handed satire and lampooning of fanaticism. While that was delivered with particular aplomb by Waititi throughout the story of the naive Jojo, I was also met with memorable and nuanced characters that were worthy of excellent performances, a backstory that was shown and not told as the viewer figured things out along with our young protagonist, and cinematography that made seemingly every scene incredibly fun to look at. Nazi Germany’s lessons are well known and explored, but this jumped right into my favorites and seemed to accomplish exactly what Waititi had envisioned when adapting this screenplay.

The tried and true fresh take on a timeless tale. A beautiful movie to look at and listen to with a moral and message that both respect the source and add to it: chivalry dies when we assume its meaning.
