The cinematography was beautiful and Natalie Portman’s performance was stellar, however the sexualization of Portman as a young child was very upsetting. While her relationship with Leon could be considered sweet at times, it was completely overshadowed by the director’s own personal history with underage women. With that in mind, many scenes between the two became unsettling and horrifying rather than heartwarming. It obviously completely changed the tone of the movie, and I couldn’t enjoy it at all.
