This simplistic yet compelling tale of the two brothers, Wirt and Greg, is an emotional journey through the "unknown." The boys' journey could be seen as a walk through "purgatory" or a simple "Alice in Wonderland" like story, whatever the interpretation, the ambiguity of it all is its beauty. My goodness, Jack Stauber has done it again. The short film tells the struggles of figurative blindness, societal pressures, addiction, broken households and so much more in a mere 12 minutes. The gritty and dirty look of the environment only deepens our connection with Opal; we feel trapped as she is and only desire to be “seen.” The music is a huge component to creating this atmosphere too. It’s so creepy while trying to be comforting, and the composition as Opal looks out the window reflects her emotions: it builds up until it can’t be contained anymore.
Had high expectations for this fourth installment to the Thor franchise. Taika had done an amazing job with Ragnarok, reinventing Thors character for a more enjoyable movie experience, and with a cast with Natalie Portman and Christian Bale, this was gonna be Marvel Phase 4’s magnum opus… right? This movie was my biggest disappointment in marvel since Captain Marvel. They had seen that Ragnarok succeeded in its comedy, so they decided to create a purely comedic Thor film with jokes…
