Doctor Cotter: got some straight gas 🔥😛 this strain is called “spitting your hearts out and melting into each other” 😳 you’ll be zonked out of your gourd 💯
Lee and Gene: yeah whatever. I don’t feel shit.
5 minutes later:
Never have I had my face absolutely drenched in tears by the end of a movie
First ten minutes of the film were fun; silly dialogue and (dare i say) campy acting, ridiculous violence and over-the-top rock music, it was so cheesy and exaggerated it was good.
But when shockingly misogynistic and oversexualised female character portrayals hit, on top of a completely disjointed and boring plot, the "lyncheisms" lost their charm and it all became nonsensical.
The shock factor level of this film ran too high for me, and there was very little to save it
Absolutely exquisite animation for a loving, balanced and sincere account of Iraq first from the eyes of a child, then of a grown-up. Also very instructive about the history of Hussein's Iraq and the consequences of American occupation up until today.
There is a lot to say, but I particularly was in awe of the use of millipede and dog imagery throughout the film, as well as the changing color pallettes from vibrant to muted. An absolutely gorgeous piece of work in its storytelling and aesthetic, cannot recommend it enough. Merci monsieur Alani d'avoir partagé votre histoire.
