The first half of the movie was weak, seemed overly predictable, and timothee really took a while to hit his stride. Accent was SO forced at first, squeaky even. Then once teenage Bob hit the screen, Timothee came alive and transformed. The poofier the hair got, the more I forgot it was Timothee I was looking at and got completely sucked into the world.

Cornballiness didn’t stop as we continued, though. Some spotlight moments in this but overall quite cheap.

“You can’t stop what’s comin’. It ain’t all waitin’ on you. That’s vanity.”

A slow, inexorable descent into persistent, calculated brutality. Chaos that’s cultivated. And possibly the worst haircut ever seen on a villain in all cinematic history.

He puts his feet up on the bed as blood creeps across the floor. Checks his boots for stains leaving the scene of the crime. Doesn’t want them dirtied. Heads or tails? Call it. The look on his face as he watches life leak out of someone.

Cormac McCarthy and violence in the American West… quintessential
