I find one of the most striking things within this movie to be the power struggle between the intuitive spirituality of Ellen and the people living in Transylvania warning Thomas about the vampire, and the failing western scientific rationale of the doctors and men treating Ellen. I think it touches something deep within our time, can we always rely on science? Should we dismiss all mythical wisdom found in ancient civilisations, and just rely on western cynicism? Maybe the answer…
