This movie broke my heart. Mahin and Faramarz found each other so late in life, and I could feel the depth of their excitement and companionship. Yet, as with most Iranian films, there was no happy ending. It seems there won’t be until their country is truly free. My heart aches for their sorrow—a sorrow that feels endless.
I can't believe I started 2025 with this movie. I was tricked by the Metascore. While I understand the criticism and the underlying idea of the movie, it could have been executed differently, or perhaps it's just the style of this director. Either way, it's definitely not for me.
The idea of the movie is very good, and its style is different, but I didn't find the storytelling strong enough. It was selected for Cannes because of its political criticism of the government, which is always appreciated at this festival, regardless of how artistic the film is.
