I absolutely fucking loved this movie. It was everything I was looking for, and then so happily surprised me by the end when it turned out not to be what I thought it was. This movie was so sweet. The voice casting was fantastic- particularly Pedro as Fink the fox. Lovely message about the roles we play in the world, and how we need kindness and community to survive. The animation style was particularly beautiful- I hope we get to see more films drawn like this in the future.
This horror film plays with using a supernatural entity as a scapegoat, when in reality the far more terrifying thing is often what happens to humans psyches when isolated and in survival mode. I also had no idea dust storms were this severe in the 30s, and something about this utilizing the very real ecological disaster as a horror trope made the film all the more scary. Sarah and Ebon both gave some outstanding performances, and I was genuinely tense and unsettled the whole way through.
