The Sterilization of Leilani Muir 1996
It feels somehow unethical to give this film a rating. Watched it in a history of madness class for uni, had a long discussion about the sensationalization of historical trauma (the music choices + editing combo was WILD - akin almost to horror-esque soundtracks/shots, which plays into the misappropriation of what was a very real and cruel history for ‘entertainment value’) and how proximity to whiteness makes your trauma more sympathetic/worthy of being screened. It was an interesting conversation to have at 9am on a Tuesday morning. I feel the most I can say is you can tell the documentary is a product of the 90s
