More impressive than enjoyable - not having Crisipin Glover, choosing to pick up the minute the first film ended and the heaviness of the exposition make the film more of a checklist than a pop culture classic like part I.

The lead up to the climax though, where Marty and the film literally engage with the original story, is probably the best part of the film and a genuinely exciting narrative experiment. Unfortunately, the cliff hanger ending and the coming attraction for Part III leave the film ending on an
    unsatisfying note.

Nice sets and really beautiful cinematography. I’m still yet to watch a movie by Luca that I had a desire to rewatch.

I know people love the dumb scatalogical stuff and the one liners, but my favourite aspect of the film is how much of a genuine loving tribute it is to Bond, Swinging London and the 60s more generally.

In its almost obsessive recreation of sets, characters and scenarios from 007 films and the like, the film has a warmth and tenderness to it that is, in a weird way, timeless.

It’s also, pretty consistently, fucking hilarious.

Seeing as the more spiritual and existential aspects of Prometheus and Covenant didn’t take off the way Scott clearly wanted them to, it’s not surprising they decided to play it safe and make something derivative of Alien (1979) in terms of plot and characters. This lack of originality unfortunately saps some of the suspense and shock, but the finale somewhat makes up for it with a truly demented creature that is both unsettling and thematically satisfying.
