Haven’t seen the original but i just finished Dracula. This got close to breathing meaning into the story where Stoker fails imo. There are hints of allegory in Eggers’ script. Failing that at least it is full of themes relevant to today’s societal fears.
Still chewing on it. I’ve got some loose strands, unsure how Ellen’s story fits in (glaring!), at least in a positive reading of the text. Van Helsing, this time von Franz, steals most of my attention.
Errata: stertorous breathing. Also i couldn’t help but feel a connection between the Hutters and Brad and Janet.
