This is right up there with The Lighthouse and The Northman. Roger Eggers’ attention to detail in this re-telling story was haunting. My wife and I saw at AMC in Dolby on Saturday night and that just added to atmosphere with a full audience too. Like the original 1922 film and 1992 Bram Stoker’s Dracula, this story unfolds slowly. I was a little surprised at the ending too. Count Orlock was more of a zombie than vampire and a pretty lonely dude. Seeing Willem Defoe on screen is always a bonus.

Small Things Like These 2024
Just watched this at home starring Cillian Murphy and it was great! He ran a small coal and fuel delivery business supporting his family in the mid 80s. The movie takes place in Ireland and he discovers how the nuns in a local convent were mistreating young pregnant single mothers. The character, Bill Furlong, had a single mother and struggled with the moral and societal pressures to help one of them. Emily Watson also gave a chilling portrayal of the Mother Superior. The story telling was a little slow but delivers for the final act.

Cabrini 2024
I saw this with my wife last night in the theater with a sold out audience. I went to catholic school from K-12 and did not know much about Mother Cabrini. Although this was made by Angel Studios, it was not a typical faith-based movie. Cristina Dell’ Anna was great and enjoyed seeing Giancarlo Gianni as the Pope and John Lithgow as the mayor.
This movie really inspired me! This poor woman was told she would spend her life in…

Poor Things 2023
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Caught this last night with my wife using our AMC A-list membership. It's a twist on Dr. Frankenstein's story with some surprising graphic scenes from Emma Stone. The surreal sets really helped make it visually fun to watch. Loved Bella Baxter's personal journey and equality in the Victorian era. The final act was pretty good weaving in her first husband, the general, and the final act with a brain-swapping twist to tie up the story. Great movie, but hoping we don't get a flood of shockers in mainstream films. Glad I saw this in a movie theater!
