  Very good for a monster movie, holy crap.

  A lot of themes going on I could talk about: the war, guilt and redemption, and the will to live. Also the whole socio political situation of post war Japan serves as a very interesting back drop to the film.

  The main reason this film works is how Godzilla functions as a plot device : he exponentially compounds the main character’s issues: he regrets being a failed pilot and then Godzilla shows…

  I saw a review of this movie saying the 2nd act of this movie was monke Shawshank and I laughed so hard. 
  The first act moved fast, we never were sitting around, the plot was always moving. The first act was long only because it was definitely trying to show a lot: James Franco’s relationship with the father, and Caesar’s coming of age arc. It suffered the problem of taking on too much and taking too long to set up…
