So much of this one is in the nighttime shots of winds shaking the trees, and insects in flight lit up just right. At their best Argento's worlds simply overflow, spill over - dizzyingly crowded ontologies and characters who for better and worse are never alone. In this one, both beneath and above everything, love is the law - her love, their love, unquestioned and unfaltering across lines of life and death. To me it feels very theological that way. i meannnn, there is just no getting past the beyond-fucked up elder abuse here... which means that this kind of "queer representation" is just a hatecrime, lol. sorry, villainous lesbians is actually not novel and having your audience root for them to get killed isn't clever and woke even if it's under a thin pretense of Condemning Intersectional Capitalism (thx for that one comrade netflix, really helping to spread the word).
