First half: absolute cinema
Second half: unnecessary, messy, and distracted
They had such a great film on their hands that got absolutely obliterated in the second half. It’s a shame to see this happen with yet another A24 movie. Great setup with horrible execution. I will say cinematically it was undeniably stunning to look at, and the score was phenomenal. You really felt the scale of the cityscape and especially the Statue of Liberty in the beginning.
