This film is drenched in that rare kind of melancholy that you just want to dissolve into, to live inside of. Soft, relaxing colour palette, refreshingly light on plot and all of it underscored by that gorgeous folk music.

The melody of a warm, comforting embrace, but the harmonies are sorrow, pity, regret. I just love the Coens man.

Breathtakingly drawn, full of the childish wonder we’ve come to expect from Studio Ghibli, but also packs an emotional gut-punch. Above all else though, an exploration of grief, loss, and humanity as a whole that only an artist as experienced or as eloquent in the language of film (and animation) as Hayao Miyazaki could compose. Very few can say they have truly mastered a medium, Miyazaki can confidently do so.

Side note, I watched the dub (I don’t care what you think) and Robert Pattinson’s voice was completely unrecognisable woah

Staking out your prime murder suspect for so long that you begin to hallucinate yourself inside their home is a level of yearning previously unheard of

It’s so funny that this documentary about sperm donation looks better than 90% of movies that came out last year

Alright stop the count. The Best Actress race is over.

Mikey is a STAR. That ending crushed me.

It’s been over 24 hours and I’m struggling to formulate even a single coherent thought about what I saw. It’s very possible that it’s actually one of the worst movies of the decade, I really don’t know yet. It definitely wasn’t uninteresting though, it had me laughing plenty (unintentionally?) and the entire cast gave it their ALL, which is something I guess? It’s also kind of ugly, which I never thought i’d say about a FFC film lol

    I’ll (generously)…
