    Basically a grown up (more violent) version of the toy car videos my toddler watches on YouTube,  with excavators even! 

    I did find myself thinking about the will to live a lot during this. Like at a certain point, why even bother trying? Oof. (This question is addressed in conversation.)

    Heavy leaning into the dramatic looks from ATJ.

    Amazing practical effects, obviously, and some weird obvious-CGI shots. Intentionally campy?

    The third of Nelly Kaplan’s and third I’ve now watched. She’s a superb craftsperson of comedy. This film felt more mainstream and commercial than her previous two, less subversive and I imagine would appeal to a wide audience. It was also the most endearing— a lovely story of a marriage over time. And very very funny.  Favorite scenes and moments: reaction when they are initially told about their inheritance; policemen talking about what they ate for breakfast; purusing the Marseilles food markets. As always, Kaplan makes good use of music to add to the cartooniness of the worlds she creates

    Finally watched. What a gem. Starting with the palate. It was like candy to watch. The really fast paced editing is interesting, and that scenes are often more like little vignettes then fully formed scenes. It conveys that “slice of life” feeling and sort of just sneaks the plot in subtly and I’d say expertly. It’s interesting how even though the whole movie is in a way devastating, it doesn’t feel like that. The approach isn’t judgmental, and it’s not…
