nothing “happens” in this, allowing for a meditative concentration and imagination simultaneously. I found myself picturing the narrator’s life, all the details of her new life in new york, mostly undisclosed to her mother. Her mother, whose incessant hope for receiving letters more often is heartbreaking and raw in its shifting from sadness to annoyance and passive aggressiveness. it pained me to imagine the hole her daughter’s departure and lack of writing left in her family’s life, but I did appreciate the optimism in continuously writing, sending her $20 and boxes of clothes occasionally, and a life lived on.

Classic timeline loop movie, but still really fun to watch. I loved the color grading of the film, the random photo montages of background characters, and minimal dialogue. The movie reminded me of how movies can be made outside of Hollywood predictability.
