Acting all round was fantastic. I can’t believe I could be nauseated by Toni Colettes character so much! Ana De Armas, Chris Evans and Daniel Craig were really excellent. Though the film spends a bit more time with these characters, I wasn’t upset at all because narrative really demands for it. This film really hits the ground running in terms of thrills. 1917 as well as a great film is a great spectacle. With Roger Deakins as cinematographer the camerawork was great. There were two scenes in particular; both at the tail end of the second and third acts which, when paired with Newmans score, were utterly breathtaking. The whole ‘one take’ idea of filming felt quite natural and not as gimmicky as I had worried.

My goodness.
This was my most anticipated film of 2019. The premise, the director, the actors, the score and the cinematography got me going. Unfortunately, The Lighthouse hasn’t arrived in Australia yet, but I managed to catch the original version in Paris.
Pattinson and DaFoe are able to display every range of emotion in this film, and their transformations as the film progresses are well warranted.
