The Whale 2022
One of the most emotionally raw films I've seen this year, The Whale's subject matter is depressing, yet, Aronofsky doesn't wrap the viewer entirely in a sense of melancholy, instead, similar to that of reality, The Whale is tragic, yet dotted with glimmers of hopefulness and even some humor, that manage to seep through the drab and dilapidated exterior of the film, creating an incredibly bittersweet, beautiful, and fascinating character study that gives a lot to chew on.
Brendan earned his Oscar on this one.
