This had a ton of amazing ski footage, really fantastic. The downside was that it’s ~30% in Norwegian and the distributor sent the un-subtitled version. We basically got the gist of most of it, but there were some apparent philosophical moments that were lost in translation. Not the fault of the filmmaker or the theater. Language notwithstanding it is a spectacle.

Familiar Touch 2024
As a hospice nurse who has worked in many memory care facilities, I avoid watching any type of film about healthcare. This movie was weirdly accurate in not only facility life, but also the progression of the disease. It explored (so accurately) the impact of the disease on family, and the interactions between trained caregivers. I had a patient who was an engineer and could teach me about it all day, so I appreciated the filmmaker letting her show her cooking skills that were deeply embedded in her mind. And I want the borscht recipe! This was my favorite movie at the NewNext Film festival.

Tommy's Toenails
This film is day in the life of “Tommy”, a former athlete who tries to clip his toenails in different Baltimore locations. You get a glimpse into Tommy’s mind, who I am assuming has had one too many concussions (I loved the film work around his thoughts). Oh, and did I mention there is a murder scene? Bet you didn’t see that coming. Neither did I. But I think we can all say we have met a “Tommy” at one point in our lives.
Brilliant film.Translated from by
