The Ice Storm 1997
Patient and understated, The Ice Storm builds quietly to a moving catharsis. I felt an emotional distance from the characters for the first act of the movie, and was concerned I wouldn't be able to engage with them, but by the second hour I was fully invested. The film ends beautifully, emotionally powerful without overplaying its hand. A movie for grown-ups.
