also watched with thomson whom I've been advertising this film to ever since we first met -- feels like a full circle moment, we both got emotional.

An undoubtedly ambitious work by Yorgos Lanthimos, one of my favorite contemporary directors. A visual delight, this film tries to be everywhere and everything. Personally prefer some of his earlier, more focused work but this does have its strokes of genius.
Suffers a bit from its scale -- sometimes it feels like it's trying to address too many things at once and doesn't really get to touch upon any one thing too deeply.
At times relentlessly cruel but also deeply moving. I found Bella's reunion with her father-figure Godwin Baxter to be one of the most beautiful parts of the film.
